Surprise Arizona isn't really that surprising if you're looking to visit a southwestern, sun-drenched town. Surprise Arizona is located in the northwest Salt River Valley. In other words, this is the Valley of the Sun. Surprise Arizona is only 45 minutes from Phoenix, but is beautiful in nature with mountain park lands around it, a lake, and the Sonoran desert. Surprise Arizona is a safe and clean place to visit. Being so close to Phoenix makes it a fast and easy drive to the big city. Surprise Arizona was named after Surprise Nebraska by Homer Ludden, a state legislator. For the tourist, Surprise Arizona has a lot to offer. There is White Tank Mountain Regional Park where ancient petroglyphs are confusing archaeologists. You can also hike to a waterfall, when it's in season. and even camp out there in the desert. The Surprise Aquatic Center is a wonderful waterpark with slides and pools, shallow enough for the smallest child. There are eight public golf courses in Surprise Arizona for the golf lover.
