About Buckeye

Buckeye Arizona is part of Maricopa County, is interconnected by five highways, has an all-purpose airport and railroad station. Buckeye consists of approximately one hundred and forty five square miles of land. Buckeye was established in 1888 and is part of what is commonly known as the Valley of the Sun. The growth of Buckeye is phenomenal and has been greatly influenced by it close proximity to Phoenix the capital of Arizona. The population in Buckeye jumped 192 percent between 2000 and 2006 with a growth rate of second place for cities in the United States. It is believed that Buckeye will continue to grow rapidly, possibly becoming larger than the Phoenix metropolitan area. The vast opportunities currently available in this community make it one of the most sought out places to live in Arizona. One of the first neighborhoods in Buckeye is known as the Valencia neighborhood located a little north of the downtown area. The community of Sundance is in close proximity to Interstate 10, and is home to the Sundance Towne Center the first of a number of large shopping centers that have been planned for the city of Buckeye. North of Interstate Ten the community of Verrado was developed. Nearby the future home of the Buckeye Parkway Center will be the home of many diverse retail businesses. West Park is another fast growing community located northwest of the downtown area of Buckeye. With the growth being so great in this desert community, there is no concern for water, because the city has a very high water table. The Buckeye Irrigation Company often has to operate special wells to prevent thousands of acres of precious farmland from becoming saturated and ruining the crops. The Buckeye Hills Regional Park affords camping and several hiking trails in a breathtaking natural setting. There is a target range located within the Buckeye Hills Regional Park for those interested in target shooting. There are many historical sites and museums to leisurely explore. The Aquatic Center has one of the best Olympic size swimming and diving pools in Arizona, where many summer activities are offered.
